We kicked off the 2012 season with our first race at Plymouth Speedway. We drove up on Saturday for the scheduled practice session, but due to rain most of the day, we turned very few laps. On Sunday, it was windy but dry. In the first practice of the day, my fastest lap time was 14.680 seconds which was 12th fastest. The second practice session was better with my best lap being 10th fastest at 14.549 seconds.
When it came time to qualify, I found the heat and turned a qualifying lap at 14.304. I qualified 7th fastest in the field and was only 0.192 seconds off the fast time. Due to the fastest qualifier drawing an 8 on the inversion, my 7th fastest qualifying time earned me a spot in the front row to begin the race. I was positioned to line up on the outside which isn’t the best place to be at Plymouth Speedway, and did I mention that I had never raced at that track before? After 75 hard laps, we finished on the lead lap only 4.674 seconds behind the winner to bring the car home with a 7th place finish–beating all of our expectations.
The next race is at Winchester Speedway on Sunday, May 6, where we hope to continue to build momentum for a great season!
Until next time,
